The Elgin Mill was started in Kanpur in the year 1864. It was a textile mill set up by the British. It runs as a subsidiary of the British India Corp. With increase in colonial control, Indian trade began to decline. Traders were allowed only to transfer raw materials which was needed by Britishers.
